1.4 Important notes to be read before commencing construction

These notes contain important information that must be read and understood before construction commences.

General notes:

  1. This manual has been prepared for a range of roof framing designs using ENDUROWALL® building components manufactured or supplied by BlueScope Steel and its licensed manufacturers or dealers.

  2. The ENDUROFRAME® Building System has been designed as a complete framing system.

  3. All erection and connection details must be made in accordance with the relevant standard connection drawing details contained in either:
    • This manual or its supplements
    • Drawings output from the ENDUROCADD® software.

  4. Before you commence construction you should:
    • Check with your local government authority to see if any form of prior permission or approval is required for your job.
    • Seek advice from a suitably qualified engineer to verify the capacity of your existing structure to withstand any additional load arising from attached structures, if you want to build or construct any attached structure.

    Note

You should also check with your local government authority to determine any specific requirements for attachments to existing structures.

  5. Consult your nearest ENDUROFRAME® fabricator for information regarding maintenance, handling, storage and any other technical assistance you may require to ensure the maximum lifespan of your house frame.

Safety notes:

  1. You must check with your local workplace health and safety authority to determine which safety measures need to be put in place prior to and during construction.

    Important

Installers and erectors bear the responsibility of ensuring that local safe work practices are followed and the safety of the whole site is maintained at all times.

  2. You must develop a safety management plan to cover key risks before commencing any fabrication or construction. Key risks include, but are not limited to:
    • Working at heights
    • Electrical safety
    • Cuts and scratches.

  3. You must consider and install appropriate safety equipment to manage identified risks. Safety equipment that may include, but is not limited to:
    • Personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection (when using power tools) and sunscreen
    • Appropriate fall protection equipment including guard rails, scaffolds, ladders, elevated platforms, safety mesh, and fall restraint harnesses.

  4. You must establish temporary earth during the construction of steel frames and permanent earth upon job completion in accordance with the requirements of local electrical authorities.

  5. You must install nylon grommets into steel wall frames for running electrical cabling.

  6. You should seek specialist advice where insufficient detail is included in this manual for your project.
